Why would a child getting measles trigger a county-wide health warning?

Christmas eve we went to my mother n laws. Well Christmas night my nephew broke out with measles. So of course me I’m a 1st time mom of a 5 almost 6 month old baby am freaking out. His doctor told me nothing he can do till he gets it but I read online otherwise Well now its been 6 days and I’m still worried. He isn’t acting sick in any way just sleeping alot.
