Before vaccinations - the majority of children got measles. Many died, many survived and were immune.
Vaccinations began and the measles rates dropped drastically. Now it is uncommon in the US; however, recently there has been an upswing as more and more parents are not having their children vaccinated due to fears over MMR (thimerosol - ingredient in the vaccine)causing autism.
This month, a new study came out that objectively documents that there is NO link between autism rates and MMR. Autism rates continue to rise even though thimerosol has been out of vaccinations since 2001.
Worldwide, measles is the number 1 vaccine preventable killer. In 2006, there were 500,000 deaths from measles.
